We warmly invite you to join us at our upcoming Inaugural Professorial Event:

Professor Caro McCaw: Creative practices in between

Prof Caro McCaw’s art and design practice is grounded in place. She will take us to multiple locations which provide context for reflection on the threads that have brought her to where she is now. Caro explores the spaces between text and reader, between practice and teaching, between the institution and the community, between New Zealand and New York State, the tidal zone between sea and land, the interdependency between human and other species.

Caro designs in and for nature, with a sense of being both local and global. Community collaboration and project-based learning are instrumental to her practice. Art and design disciplines are often considered primarily useful for communicating concepts and ideas through sophisticated visual means. To this mix Caro adds social engagement strategies including user-focused design methods, and participatory and digital art practices to encourage new perspectives and behaviours.

Like Caro’s research, this event is an opportunity to engage with place and people, to explore alternative ways of knowing and being in our physical and social environments.
