Mō te tūraka mahi  | About the role

The Kaiāwhina role is responsible for providing pastoral care, learning advice and support for Māori tauira (learners), contributing to a holistic tauira experience. You will specifically be responsible for the support, advice and guidance of Māori learners studying at Otago Polytechnic, in alignment with the six priorities of our Māori Strategic Framework.  Whakawhanuakataka is vital is this role to relate to, build and maintain relationships with tauira, while understanding their academic and personal needs is essential. Proficiency in te reo me ōna tikaka Māori and a solid understanding of tertiary education are vital. 

A key part of the role is to liaise internally with Colleges and Schools in order to enhance tauira retention and success, as well as with external organisations to further support Māori tauira, therefore the ability to relate well to a diverse range of people is vital.

We are looking for a keen passionate organiser to lead and deliver exceptional event experiences; building and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders; and completing day to day administration that goes along with event planning and delivery 

The Corporate Events Specialist will provide a timely efficient and professional, events management function across Otago Polytechnic. Including, but not limited to, graduation, pre-graduation, alumni events, sponsorship & fundraising events, symposiums and long service celebrations, ensuring agreed successful outcomes are achieved and Otago Polytechnic is represented in a positive light.

This is a varied and fast-paced role within a collaborative team environment. Working with event owners across the organisation.

Key to your success in this role will be your ability to hit the ground running in a close-knit team environment, you will be a super reliable team player that loves organising and isn’t afraid to pitch in.

You will have the ability to multi-task, think on your feet and work confidently and show initiative under pressure, working both individually and as part of a team.

You will have 3+ years’ experience in event management, a passion for organisation and processes, excellent verbal and written skills and a passion for working with stakeholders, advising and guiding them to achieve the event goals and objectives.

You will have a passion for organisation and process implementation and have the ability to plan and manage all events aspects from end to end. You will thrive in a busy environment where everyday is different.

You will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent  communication skills with a natural ability to engage and build      relationships
  • Significant  experience in event management
  • Significant experience in operations/administrative support

· Exceptional organisation and time management skills which are managed to deadlines

This role is the first point of contact for visitors (internal and external) to our department providing reception duties and front-line administration. The Administrator is the conduit for our team providing outstanding service to our Campus Services colleagues as well as exceptional service to the whole of Otago Polytechnic – kaimahi (staff) and tauira (learners) alike.

Your primary responsibilities will be providing answers to customer enquiries and administration involved for the duties of our team including managing bookings for The Hub – Otago Polytechnic’s largest function venue. You’ll administer Health and Safety inductions to contractors visiting campus.

Your role will be over the opening hours for 37.5 hour per week. This role is part of a team who are the first point of contact for those making enquiries. You will pro-actively provide information about Otago Polytechnic’s products and services utilising the appropriate resources.

As a Lecturer you will deliver automotive training to a wide range of student levels in fulltime/part-time study, block courses and night classes. You will deliver and modify current curriculum material as well as develop new teaching material, assess tauira and report on their capability and ability to use new technology in the automotive field.

The role includes:

Ø preparing and delivering content for assigned courses and marking

Ø using a range of approaches to ensure tauira are engaged within their learning creating outstanding learning experiences

Ø work with colleagues to plan, develop and contribute to the review of courses to ensure they meet learning needs and occupational therapy industry requirements.

Ø provide pastoral support to our tauira as needed.

You will be a strong role model to mentor tauira (learners) along with excellent communication skills.

You will have suitable industry experience and qualifications along with current involvement in trade, professional, industry or community activities. Your computer skills will be good and you will have knowledge and demonstrable expertise in all modern electronics

Experience working with EV and/or heavy vehicles would be an advantage.

Mō te tūraka mahi  | About the role

Our core business is delivering excellent education to tauira (learners) studying Animal Care, Veterinary Nursing Assistant, Veterinary Nursing and Rural Animal Technician both on campus and via distance education. This role will teach on the NZ Certificate in Animal Technology (Rural Animal Technician) programme.

The role includes:

Ø preparing and delivering content for assigned courses including online and face-to-face at block courses, and marking

Ø using a range of approaches to ensure tauira are engaged within their learning creating outstanding learning experiences

Ø work with colleagues to plan, develop and contribute to the review of courses to ensure they meet learning needs and occupational therapy industry requirements.

Ø provide pastoral support to our tauira as needed.

This position is fixed term until December 2022 to backfill staff released to support Te Pūkenga programme and resource development, with the potential for an extension for a further year. There is an expectation to be available to travel for block courses, which will necessitate several days away from home two or three times a year. 

Ko wai koe | About you 

You will hold a relevant rural animal technician qualification or veterinary degree and have current experience as a rural animal technician or rural animal veterinarian and preferably be registered with the NZVNA, NZVA or equivalent body. International experience is an advantage. Great communication skills (in person and online), and evidence of being a team player is essential.

Experience in a formal teaching role and a qualification in tertiary teaching is highly desirable however support will be provided to gain a qualification for a successful applicant that does not hold the required qualification and for those inexperienced in teaching. Experience supporting learners in the work place is an advantage.
