The principle aim of this conference was to bring together a community of national and international scholars in humanities and social sciences working in the areas related to disability studies in order to make contacts, share ideas, and generally raise the profile of disability studies in Australasia. My presentation gave an overview of sensory integration dysfunction and the development of pressure-emitting garments. Paper proposals were peer reviewed.

Paper provided context through the methodology of an individual case study which informed the development of pressure garments that aid the integration of sensations for children who live with the developmental disorder sensory integration dysfunction. Conference papers submitted under the theme Fashion & Well-Being? responded to the sub-themes of Identity, Sustainability, Health, Ethics, Designing the Future, Technology, and Retail. All submitted papers were double-blind reviewed at both the abstract and full paper stages.

The Asia Pacific Autism Conference 2009 (APAC 09), Connecting Today- Inspiring Tomorrow, was co-hosted by the Australian Advisory Board on Autism Spectrum Disorder and Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect). This diverse conference brought people with an autism spectrum disorder, their families, carers, educators, medical experts and researchers together. My poster presentation outlined development of pressure-emitting garments to address sensory integration. National Australian and international reviewers blind-reviewed abstracts.

The FINZ conference is a forum for emerging as well as established research within the New Zealand fashion research community. The 2008 conference theme of The Future of Fashion was a sound platform for my first research paper which discussed and gave context to future potential in the planned development of therapeutic pressure garment design. Abstracts were blind-reviewed and selected by a committee appointed by the conference convenors; the submitted full papers were finally blind double-peer-reviewed.
