Otago Polytechnic Ltd has been named as a finalist in the Ngā Āhuatanga o Te Tiriti category of the 2022 Diversity Awards NZ.

The annual Diversity Awards celebrate excellence in workplace diversity and inclusion. Organisations are invited to showcase their initiatives and publicly commit themselves to be held accountable for tangible progress in building work environments where everybody is safe to bring the best version of themselves.

The Ngā Āhuatanga o Te Tiriti tohu acknowledges an authentic and committed organisation which demonstrates from a tika and pono perspective achievements and ongoing work to reflect Te Tiriti. Organisations will demonstrate initiatives which embrace Te Tiriti in this context which contributes to stronger and more robust partnerships and relationships with whānau, hapū and iwi.

A joint application from the Kaitohutohu Office and People & Culture described how OP reflects the significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Iwi Māori knowledge and aspirations through the Māori Strategic Framework (MSF). Two judges visited OP and had the opportunity to speak with several staff members about their mahi in enabling the MSF. Diversity Works NZ stated "The judging panel has recognised that the work you are doing demonstrates best practice in workplace diversity and inclusion, is benefiting the people you employ and is having a positive impact on your business performance."

This recognition is a reflection of all the great mahi that everyone is doing collectively towards meeting the priorities of the MSF.

As a a finalist, our story of the MSF will be shared through a case study and video, which will be a resource for other organisations to use to gain inspiration and advice about setting up their own initiatives.

Winners will be announced at the end of August.
