It’s not unusual for the Dunedin Wildlife Hospital to treat protected red billed gulls, which often require treatment for injuries such as fractured wings.

But in recent times, those injured patients have been watched by a fellow gull with a bird’s eye view – introducing “Pesky Pete”.

“He likes to sit on top of the netting and just sass them, give them a hard time,” says Jordana Whyte, manager of the Wildlife Hospital Trust.

“We interpret his behaviour as pesky, but maybe he is just confused.”
