Our OPAIC Employability team and learners had an incredible experience at the 2023 New Zealand International Students' Association (NZISA) Conference.

The conference's central theme, 'Unlocking Your Potential,' resonated deeply with our mission at OPAIC. Our focus is on equipping our international students with the vital skills they need for success in the dynamic job market, and this conference aligned with our goals, offering engaging sessions led by thought leaders, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities.

The core objective of the conference was to provide students with the opportunity to feel empowered, network, and gain fresh insights into leadership and the job culture in New Zealand. It was also a chance for professionals to understand international students' challenges and barriers and explore how they can collaborate with NZISA to enhance the overall student experience.

This day-long event hosted accomplished professionals who shared their journeys, insights, and expertise.  The keynote speaker, Ziena Jalil (EQC Commissioner), and Dr Joseph (Joe) Te Rito (Deputy Director, Māori & Kaihautū Mātauranga Māori) shared invaluable insights to celebrate and motivate attendees to stay focused on their goals.

The workshops we attended were true masterclasses in personal and professional development. We extend our gratitude to the facilitators. Pratishtha PurohitSilvia Fernandez CalderonMelisa Vazquez Perez , and Liudmyla Beraud who engaged, taught, and inspired students via their sessions. Their advice on leveraging strengths and addressing weaknesses in crafting a successful career path was both practical and inspiring.

One of the most valuable aspects of the conference was the opportunity to connect with diverse peers and potential employers. Building a robust professional network is critical for our students, and this event provided the ideal platform to establish those connections.

On behalf of our learners at Otago Polytechnic Auckland International Campus, the Employability Services team extends our heartfelt appreciation to the NZISA President Vikram Selvaraj, and the organising committee for their exceptional work in bringing this event to life. Their dedication to enhancing the experiences and empowerment of international students in New Zealand was evident throughout the conference.
