December 3 is the International Day of Disabled Persons.

"Proclaimed in 1992, by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life." From the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

On and around December 3, we encourage you to take a moment to think about your concept of disability - what does disability look and sound like to you? Some disabilities are clearly visible to the observer, but many are not.  Visible or not, they can have a huge impact on a person's abilities to achieve their goals and, in some cases, to deal with simple day to day activities that many others take for granted.

If the opportunity to support a charity working for people with disabilities is available to you, through volunteering or even a small donation of money, your contribution can and will help.  Volunteer South have opportunities listed on their website if you would like further information.

Everyone has a story to tell, if you just ask the right question, and everybody has something important to offer to life.
