Whakanuia Te Wiki o te Reo Māori ki Te Kura Matatini ki Otago

Celebrate Māori Language Week at Otago Polytechnic
14–20 o Hepetema 2025 | 14–20 September 2025

Kōrero mai – Kia Kaha te Reo Māori!
That’s how you can encourage and celebrate the use of te reo Māori every day.

This year marks a very special milestone: 50 years of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori. What began in 1975 as a week to raise awareness of the language has grown into a nationwide celebration of te reo as a taonga to be cherished and strengthened.

Te reo Māori is at the heart of our identity as a country, and Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is an opportunity for us all to celebrate, learn, and use te reo in daily life.

Here at Otago Polytechnic, we are proud to support this kaupapa with events, kai, kapa haka, creative mahi toi, quizzes, and opportunities to give te reo a go in fun and meaningful ways.

Join us as we celebrate the language, acknowledge those who fought for its survival, and look forward to the next 50 years of growth and revitalisation.
