We celebrated Nowruz at our Auckland International Campus with sweets and beautiful Haft-Seen tables.

Nowruz, also known as the Persian New Year, symbolises renewal, hope, and the turning of the seasons. Celebrated by many communities around the world, it is a time to reflect, reconnect, and look ahead.

Haft-Seen tables are an ancient and cherished tradition of Nowruz. They feature seven symbolic items, each beginning with the letter “S” in Persian:

  • Seeb (Apple) – Health and beauty
  • Seer (Garlic) – Protection and strength
  • Somaq (Sumac) – Sunrise and patience
  • Senjed (Dried Oleaster Fruit) – Love and wisdom
  • Serkeh (Vinegar) – Wisdom and ageing
  • Samanu – Strength and the sweetness of life
  • Sabzeh (Sprouts) – Rebirth and renewal

The tables also include other meaningful items, including a mirror symbolising reflection, coins symbolising prosperity and wealth, and flowers symbolising the arrival of spring, renewal, and the blossoming of life.
