First-year Bachelor of Information Technology students are gaining extra support in the classroom through a new volunteer internship initiative at AIC.

Students in the Platforms and Devices course learn about computer hardware, infrastructure, operating systems, networking, and troubleshooting through intensive hands-on lab activities. For many students, it is their first time working inside a PC, making the labs challenging and fast-paced.

To help support learners during these sessions, Sessional Lecturer Firas Al-Ali introduced a volunteer internship programme. Students Rashmika, Prasamsha, Abidur, and Shahriar, who successfully completed the course previously, now assist current students during lab classes.

The interns provide in-class IT helpdesk support to their peers and also help with tasks including fixing malfunctioning lab computers, stocktaking, inventory management, and lab preparation.

Firas says the initiative has created benefits for everyone involved.

“Our learners receive more support during labs, the interns gain valuable practical experience to prepare them for employment, and it also helps improve the flow of teaching delivery in class,” he says.
