Garden Ōtepoti Dunedin
Sydney Ponte, a Bachelor of Applied Management ākonga, is currently completing her Internship Project with Clinton Chambers at Garden Ōtepoti Dunedin (GO Dunedin), Dunedin's inaugural garden festival celebrating the beauty and diversity of Otago's natural environment throughout the year. As part of the team, Sydney is contributing to the extensive planning and coordination required to deliver the festival's first Spring Programme.
The programme, themed Bloom, launches on 1 October 2026 and marks an exciting milestone for the festival. Opening events include the unveiling of the Bloom Hub at the Dunedin Botanic Garden Information Centre and the Botanical Art and Illustration Exhibition. Delivering these experiences has involved detailed event planning, stakeholder engagement, marketing coordination, and logistical preparation to ensure a successful launch for visitors and the wider community.
The programme features Dunedin's Famous Rhododendron Day Plant Sale, the Grand Casino Dunedin Bloom Garden Party, a Fashion, Food and Fun event, and a full week of Workshops, Walks, and Talks.
Otago Open Gardens then runs for two days over Labour Weekend. Visitors can self-book gardens and build their own route through Otago's finest private and public gardens. The festival wraps up on 26 October 2026 with the Smith & Sons Family Picnic Day, a free family event at the Dunedin Botanic Garden Band Rotunda.
