The tutors all came from the industry and were really engaged with their practice as designers. So they brought a lot of that with them and were able to pass on that practice.

In the four years since Queenstown’s Architecture van Brandenburg opened a branch office in Dunedin, the company has consistently found Otago Polytechnic School of Design graduates and students to have the attributes and expertise required of its employees. 

The firm is currently working on a 90,000m2 fashion headquarters in southern China – a mammoth project already four years in the making, with another four years to go. Bachelor of Design (Product) graduate and Architecture van Brandenburg designer Alex Smith says his time at Otago Polytechnic helped shape his design career.
