- Undertake further study at Otago Polytechnic, specialising in one of the following areas:
- Carpentry – New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) (Carpentry)
- Stonemasonry – New Zealand Certificate in Stonemasonry (Level 4) (Construction Stonemasonry)
- Construction Management or Quantity Surveying – New Zealand Diploma in Construction (Level 6) (Construction Management) or (Quantity Surveying)
- Architectural Studies – Bachelor of Architectural Studies (Architectural Technology)
- Gain an apprenticeship for paid on-the-job training.

- Builder/Carpenter – constructing and maintaining buildings
- Stonemason – turning rough stone blocks into structures like walls and buildings
- Construction Manager – ensuring buildings are constructed according to agreed contracts
