Are you someone who likes to plan projects and build things?

If so, this programme would be ideal for you. You’ll be working towards the New Zealand Certificate in Building, Construction and Allied Trades Skills (Level 2).

What will I do?

• Plan projects
• Operate hand and power tools
• Build furniture and structures, e.g. a garden shed
• Learn safe work practices.

What could I do next?

• Undertake further study at Otago Polytechnic, specialising in one of the following areas:
  • Carpentry – New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Level 3) (Carpentry)
  • Stonemasonry – New Zealand Certificate in Stonemasonry (Level 4) (Construction Stonemasonry)
  • Construction Management or Quantity Surveying – New Zealand Diploma in Construction (Level 6) (Construction Management) or (Quantity Surveying)
  • Architectural Studies – Bachelor of Architectural Studies (Architectural Technology)
• Gain an apprenticeship for paid on-the-job training.

Where could this take me?

• Builder/Carpenter – constructing and maintaining buildings
• Stonemason – turning rough stone blocks into structures like walls and buildings
• Construction Manager – ensuring buildings are constructed according to agreed contracts
• Quantity Surveyor – ensuring buildings are designed and completed within budget
• Architectural draughtsperson – producing drawings used on-site by building contractors
