Getting an IRD number

Inland Revenue Department (IRD)

All students require an IRD number from New Zealand Inland Revenue Department in order to work during their studies.

Follow these steps to apply for an IRD number:

1. Visit www.ird.govt.nz
2. Search ‘IRD number application’
3. Complete the online form, https://myir.ird.govt.nz/tools/_/
4. You should receive your IRD number by text or email in two working days
5. If you have any issues, call 0800 227 774
